What is the difference between Kolam and Sona Masoori?
Both are everyday medium-length rices loved across South India. Kolam (also written Colom or Wada Kolam) is grown largely in Maharashtra and Gujarat; it cooks soft, light and separate with a delicate aroma, which is why it is the daily rice of so many Bengaluru kitchens — and the base for pongal, curd rice and festive biryani. Sona Masoori comes mainly from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka and is a little lighter and starchier.
GTS Original is a Super Vada Kolam — the long, slender “bullet” grain — Sortex-cleaned and naturally aged for a year.
Is GTS Original aged rice?
Yes. Our Bullet Kolam carries a grain age of one year. Resting lets the starch settle, so grains cook longer, fluffier and separate rather than sticky.
Is it polished?
Our retail pouches are listed as raw, unpolished Kolam. Every grain passes optical Sortex cleaning at our Chandrapur mill — stones, discoloured and broken grains are sorted out by camera rather than by heavy polishing. For trade bags, ask us on WhatsApp for the current specification.
How should I store it?
Keep the rice in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Shelf life is 24 months from packing; once opened, use within a few months for the best aroma.
